One thing the newer generations have done better than us Boomers is to hold onto friendships through the years. I’m amazed at how my niece and nephews have been able to keep up with friends from their childhood and beyond. Some of this even before cheap long distance calls and social media. My mom who was one of The Greatest Generation let many of her friendships slide as the kids grew up, but after Dad died, she reconnected with many of her oldest friends. So, sometimes, it isn’t too late to reconnect.

. . . WOW! How timely! How ironic, that we have such technology that we can communicate with total strangers more often than our relatives! I have made numerous calls to some of my siblings, those that I have telephone numbers for, and have left messages that have NOT been returned. I try to call them on a regular monthly basis, though rarely do they call me, except to return my call. When, my grandmother and father were alive, his family remained close. I’ll guess, I’ll wait and see if they call me. They are on one coast and I’m on the other. Sad. :’(

I remember my father once telling me, some years after he retired, that he had tried calling some of his old co-workers. He said that half had died, and the other half had Alzheimer’s and could remember anything.

Stop making me cry, dammit! Now I have to go read a bunch of “Family Circus” just to level it out.
